Put off the old man: a definite command; the need to think and to apply doctrine; sanctification is not by faith only; the first essential for the believer is to remind himself who he is; a prayer of belief and not unbelief; the importance of a consistent life; obedience to the Gospel; do not feed the old man; but mortify the flesh.

Ephesians 4:22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
