ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST HORRIBLE seventeen months of #imprisonment was endured by Adoniram Judson from 1824 to 1825 at age 37. Little food was given to him. His feet were bound to a large bamboo pole, his hands to another, and at night his feet were lifted higher than his head. Thus he was to swing suspended on the small of his back, his feet tied to a raised pole. His heroic wife brought little bits of food to him, although she and the baby were near death at times themselves and eventually succumbed to the rigors of life in Burma.
